The Spartans faced North Platte Community College on Saturday, Dec. 1, on their home court in a 5:15 p.m. matchup. The Spartans were eager to get on the floor after a long game delay (original gametime was to be 1 p.m.) and showed that right from the start, ending the first quarter of basketball action with a 28-11 lead.

The Spartans did not let up, wrapping up the first half with Tina Lair-Van Meter's 13 points and Madelyn Moya’s perfect first half performance in the books. Moya was 3-3 from the field and 1-1 from behind the arc.

When asked about their first half performance, first-year Head Coach Bryan Austin talked about his players' desire to get on the court.

“I believe the ladies were just eager to play after waiting all day," Austin stated. "Everyone was focused and you could see that in their play.”

Southwestern went into halftime with a 43-17 lead.

The Spartans slowed down in the second half scoring just 19 points.

“I think the ladies did a great job of staying ready for the game all day, through all the distractions and changes," Austin explained. "It finally caught up to them in the second half of the game.”

The Spartans managed to stay on top though, finishing with a score of 62-35. Austin was proud of his players for facing adversity with determination.

Moya ended the game with 18 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Lair-Van Meter with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
