Spartan Women Win By 20

The Southwestern women's basketball program open up the 2021-22 season in flashy style enroute to an 88-68 victory over the William Penn Statesmen. Head coach, Bryan Austin, had this to say on the evening: "We played a great team game the first game out the gates. Everyone chipped in and did well."

The Spartans were paced by two players scoring 20+ points in the opening game, Alyssa Morris with 26 and Whynter Waterhouse-Brennan with 23. Morris, the impact player of the game, also brought down 11 rebounds and had a block. Waterhouse-Brennan grabbed 12 rebounds and had 2 assists. Other Spartan scorers were Natalia Bochenek with 8, Kaylynn Tucker with 8, Belen Bernier with 7, Vernae Ramoth with 6, Hannah Smith with 6, Cassidy Nelson with 2 and Lexi Robinson with 2. Every Spartan saw action on the evening as they earned win #1 on the year.

Coach Austin was happy with the result, but sees ample room for future opportunities, "We turned the ball over just a few more times then we would have liked, but when some of those are hustle plays, we can live with some of those. Overall was pleased with the ladies performance. We left ourselves with room to still grow and improve. Can't be upset with that."

Catch the Spartans back in action on Friday evening, again on the home court.
