Spartans Set to Tip Off 2024-25 Season Under New Leadership

CRESTON, Iowa – The Southwestern Spartans women's basketball team is gearing up for an exciting 2024-25 season, entering the court with a fresh perspective and a new head coach at the helm. Competing in the highly competitive Region 11, the Spartans face a season filled with both opportunity and challenge as they aim to build upon last year's experience in a league that has produced some of the NJCAA's most formidable teams.

Region 11, which saw two of its teams – Kirkwood and Iowa Western – reach the NJCAA National Tournament last season, promises another dynamic year. Kirkwood, fresh off their second national championship in three seasons and ninth overall, enters as the regional favorite, setting a high standard for the conference. The perennial powerhouse is joined by Iowa Western, now under new head coach Zach Loll, and NIACC, ranked No. 10 in the nation to start the season, marking their return to the national polls since their No. 1 ranking in 2019-20.

For Southwestern, this season brings the task of development and growth under new leadership. With a competitive roster, the Spartans will look to find their footing in a league with strong middle-pack teams like Iowa Central, DMACC, and Northeast, all vying for a chance to secure a top-four seed and a home game for the postseason's opening round. Iowa Lakes, known for its recent strong finishes, also seeks redemption after missing last year's regional tournament, adding to the level of competition in the conference.

As the Spartans embrace this new chapter, they face the challenge of molding a cohesive and resilient team that can go toe-to-toe with some of the nation's best. Fans can look forward to an action-packed season as Southwestern's women's basketball team sets out to make its mark in Region 11 and push for a position in postseason play.

Stay tuned for game schedules and follow the Spartans throughout the season as they take on their regional rivals and strive for a spot in the NJCAA National Tournament.
