Women's Basketball Thumps Graceland JV

The Southwestern Spartans women's basketball team opened their home basketball schedule with a decisive 75-46 victory over Graceland University JV on November 5th. Playing at home in Creston, the Spartans showed a dominant performance, fueled by strong defense and a relentless pace.

Brooklyn Hadl led the charge with an impressive 29 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 steals, showcasing her scoring prowess. Sharmaine Tapling backed up Hadl with a big night, adding 25 points and a team-high 6 steals. On the boards, Gabby Dwanyen secured 11 rebounds and contributed 6 points, helping the Spartans to a 45-32 rebounding advantage.

Defensively, the Spartans forced 27 turnovers, maintaining high intensity for the full 40 minutes. "I am proud of the team for opening up at home on a great note! I was proud of the defensive intensity and hustle we showed for 40 minutes," said Coach Kori Zarzutzki. "I am looking forward to seeing this team develop throughout the season."

The Spartans are set to build on this solid start as they continue their season with promising momentum.
