The Southwestern Spartans fell to Marshalltown CC 64-49 in front of a spirited home crowd during Walmart Appreciation Night. The Spartans, now 1-8 overall and 0-2 in ICCAC play, battled hard but couldn't overcome a slow offensive start.
Brooklyn Hadl led the Spartans with 17 points, six rebounds, and a perfect 6-for-6 at the free-throw line. Sharmaine Tapling added 10 points and nine rebounds, while Gabby Dwanyen contributed six points and a team-high eight boards. Despite strong efforts on the glass, the Spartans were out-rebounded 52-35 and shot just 25.4% from the field.
Marshalltown capitalized on second-chance opportunities, with Shenell Stewart dominating inside for 21 points and 16 rebounds. Southwestern struggled to contain Marshalltown's rebounding edge and efficient second-half scoring.
