The Southwestern Spartans women's basketball team endured a challenging matchup against nationally ranked No. 16 North Iowa Area Community College, falling 86-45 in Mason City on Wednesday night. The Spartans now sit at 1-9 overall and 0-3 in ICCAC play.

Sophomore Brooklyn Hadl led the Spartans with 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists, showcasing her versatility on both ends of the floor. Sharmaine Tapling contributed 10 points, while Bhella LavuLavu added 9 points and 4 rebounds.

NIACC, fueled by a balanced attack, controlled the game from the start, leading 25-6 after the first quarter. Keeley Steele spearheaded the Trojans with a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

Coach Kori Zarzutzki reflected on the game: "NIACC is a good team and came out ready to play. We improved as the game went on but needed that energy earlier. We flip the page and focus on a new opportunity Saturday against Ellsworth."

The Spartans return home to face Ellsworth Community College on Saturday, followed by a road game against Iowa Western on Monday. Both games present opportunities to regain momentum in ICCAC play.
