Marriott Signs with Spartans to Compete in Basketball and Volleyball

Creston, IA – Southwestern Community College head women's basketball coach Kori Zarzutzki has announced the signing of Savanna Marriott, a multi-sport athlete from Clearmont, Missouri. Marriott, a 5-foot-5 guard, will join both the women's basketball and volleyball programs at Southwestern this fall.

A standout at Nodaway Valley High School, Marriott brings a competitive résumé across both sports. On the basketball court, she was a two-time all-conference selection, earning honorable mention honors one season and second team recognition the next. She also earned a spot on the All-District Team for two seasons and was named to the Platte Valley Invitational All-Tournament Team three times. Marriott added another tournament honor with a selection to the Fairfax All-Tournament Team and finished her high school career with 149 made three-pointers, setting a Nodaway Valley program record.

In volleyball, Marriott continued her success, earning first team all-conference honors twice and second team all-district accolades in two seasons. She also excelled in the classroom, being named to the Academic All-State Team twice and consistently achieving High Honor Roll recognition.

"I chose Southwestern because when I took the visit I loved the campus and all the facilities," Marriott said. "Coach Kori along with Coach Brianna were super welcoming, and made it feel like a second home."

Coach Zarzutzki is confident in Marriott's ability to make an immediate impact.

"We are very excited to have Savanna in a Spartans uniform this fall," said Zarzutzki. "She is a great athlete who is known to shoot the ball well, and she is going to come in, compete and fit right in."

Marriott is set to be a dual-sport athlete for the Spartans, contributing on the court for Coach Zarzutzki in basketball and for Coach Brianna Maitlen in volleyball.
