The Southwestern Spartan women's golf team took off on a quick trip to compete in the Graceland University Fall Women's Invitational held at the Lamoni Golf Course, which rests on the south side of Graceland University's campus. As the Balloon Day's balloons were flying over campus in Creston, the Spartans competed in a highly-talented field in Lamoni.

The Spartans were led on an unusually hot fall day by Creston native Ashton Carter. Carter finished in fourth place in the 46-player field.

"Ashton did well. She would gladly take three or four holes back, but that is every round of golf," says Spartan Head Coach Doug North. "She stepped up to the plate and led the girls to another sub-400 team score."

The Spartans finished fifth in the nine-team field, four strokes shy of fellow ICCAC competition in North Iowa Area Community College. Rounding out the scoring for the Spartans was Bianca Findlay and a ninth place finish, shooting an 89; Sarah Rauschenberg finishing in a tie for 28th place, shooting a 102; Megan Fairchild shooting a 119; and Kate Belding shooting a 121.

"We've got a nice break now. The girls don't compete again until October," stated North. "We've got some nagging injuries and some sickness, so it'll be great to get over all of that."

North indicated the fall season's next stop will be the Bent Tree Invitational hosted by Iowa Western and then the fall season will conclude with the ICCAC Regional Preview at Otter Creek hosted by North Iowa Area Community College.
