Creston, IA — The Southwestern Community College athletic department is excited to announce the relaunch of its women's golf program, with competition set to begin in the fall of 2025. Under the direction of longtime Head Coach Doug North, the Spartan program will return to the course with full NJCAA and ICCAC membership and expectations to re-establish itself among the nation's top two-year college golf programs.
Southwestern has a proud history of success in women's golf, producing three NJCAA National Championship qualifiers during its previous run. Bianca Findlay qualified twice in back-to-back seasons (2018 and 2019), while Shelby Williams earned a spot at nationals in 2014. Coach North, who has led the men's program since fall 2015, will also guide the women's team as it reenters national competition.
"Our goal is to build a competitive roster quickly and compete at a high level right away," North said. "We've had national qualifiers before, and with the facilities we have in place, we believe that's just the beginning of what this new chapter can become."
Student-athletes will have access to a full suite of year-round resources, including a wedge range on campus for shots inside 100 yards, an on-campus driving range with unlimited team access, and dedicated indoor practice space. The Spartans' home course, Crestmoor Golf Club, is located just 530 yards from the residence halls, providing unmatched convenience for practice and tournament preparation.
Scholarship opportunities are available, and all golf-related travel and competition expenses are covered through the college's operational budget, aligning with standard support provided across collegiate golf programs. The program is now actively recruiting for Fall 2025 and beyond.
Prospective student-athletes interested in joining the program are encouraged to complete the Spartans' "Recruit Me" form at:
