ATLANTIC - Southwestern Director of Cross Country/Track & Field Scott Vicker announced today the signing of Abbi Richter of Atlantic for the 2023-24 track & field season.

Richter will be a May 2023 graduate of Atlantic High School. She is the daughter of Brian and Jennifer Richter.

Richter will join a throwing squad at Southwestern that has seen a high level of success over the past year. Under the direction of Assistant Coach Mark Evans, Spartan throwers broke school records in four of the six women's throwing events in the 2022 season. In addition, Molly Venteicher won the Region XI championship in the shot put as a freshman before going on to place 10th in the event at the NJCAA National Championships. Emma Decker and Brianna Osterson both competed in the javelin at the NJCAA National Championships, finishing 17th and 18th, respectively.

"The women's throws has been an area we have seen a tremendous amount of growth and success in over the past year," Vicker said. "We hope to continue that trend with the addition of Abbi to the program."

Richter enters her senior season at Atlantic with PRs of 31 feet, 8.5 inches in the shot put and 99 feet, 4 inches in the discus throw.

"Abbi is very passionate about the throwing events," Vicker said. "She has a great work ethic, and I have confidence she will continue to improve in the throwing events as she continues to get stronger and perfects her technique. We are excited to have her be a part of our program next year."
