Spartans fall in home triangular

SWCC volleyball vs. NIACC

The Southwestern volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at home Saturday in triangular action against Marshalltown CC and Grand View JV.

The Spartans fell 25-15, 26-24, 25-18 to Marshalltown in their opening match.

Hanna Gray and Cayla Maitlen paced the Spartans with eight kills apiece, as Paige Oldenkamp added four and Taylor Buxton finished with three kills. Maitlen also led the team with 11 digs. Buxton and Brooklyn Herr posted 10 digs apiece, with Yasmine Cribb and Gray finishing with nine each. Herr dished out 24 assists and Brooke Halterman led the team with two solo blocks. Buxton and Maitlen each had two service aces.

The Spartans finished off the triangular with a 25-22, 25-15, 22-25, 25-23 loss to Grand View JV.

Oldenkamp posted a team-high 10 kills. Riley Jewett added nine kills, followed by Buxton's eight and Gray with seven. Herr set 34 assists for the Spartans and had two service aces to go with 21 digs. Jewett also had two service aces while finishing with 21 digs. Buxton led the team with 24 digs, while Kelcie Gaines added 22 digs. Oldenkamp finished with match with three solo blocks.

Southwestern, now 3-15 for the season, hosts DMACC 7 p.m. Wednesday in ICCAC play.
