Southwestern Community College Volleyball Falls to Peru State College JV in Competitive Match

The Southwestern Community College volleyball team faced off against Peru State College JV, resulting in a 3-1 loss. The game showcased determined efforts from both sides and highlighted key player performances.

The match, held at Southwestern, unfolded with scores of 20-25, 25-20, 21-25, and 17-25 in favor of Peru State College JV. Southwestern's players demonstrated their skills and competitiveness throughout the game, despite the ultimate outcome.

Key performers on the court included:

Coach Taylor Shipley shared insights into the team's performance, stating, "We came out strong and communicated well. As the game progressed, we had to fight for every point. Our focus was to play smart and force the other team to make errors. It's tough to overcome a team that has so much depth on their bench. We're a small team and by set 4 the girls were tired. Overall, we saw some really great things and the girls did a great job adjusting to a new rotation. I think we'll see a lot of progress as we move forward through the season."

Regarding the team's overall performance, Coach Shipley highlighted Hallica Warren-Anderson's standout contribution, stating, "For our overall season stats so far, Hallica is leading us in kills. She does a great job adjusting to make the play. She put in a lot of work this last spring, and we're starting to see that pay off. She'll be one to watch this season for sure."

Players also shared their perspectives on the match:

  • Gréta Petőfi commented, "We started our game with really high energy and won the first set. For the last 3 sets, our confidence level dropped a little, so unfortunately we couldn't win the whole game, but I'm really proud of the team. We put all the effort in and managed to have fun as well."
  • Sophie Lyle stated, "I think we showed a lot of perseverance. We came out strong in the first match but lost a little enthusiasm that spiraled into more errors. Overall, very proud of how hard we worked and we definitely learned a lot from that game."
  • Meredith Gettings shared, "I think throughout the whole match we were able to still hustle through and have great rallies. We started off really strong and aggressive, and I think if we kept that up consistently throughout the entire game, we would've had the outcome we wanted!"
  • Malori Leonard added, "I think we played well last night. We're a new team and still figuring out the details. We showed our potential last night but I think once we figure out everything we can be more successful this year."
  • Samira Baade reflected, "I think that the game really helped us to see what we need to work on in the following games. We really worked together as a team, it was a great atmosphere as well as it was from the student section."

The team's next game is scheduled against Iowa Lakes on 8/30 in Estherville.
