Southwestern Community College (SWCC) is thrilled to announce the signing of CAM High School's Maddie Richter to its volleyball and basketball programs for the upcoming 2025 season. Surrounded by family, coaches, and supporters, Maddie signed her National Letter of Intent on Friday, committing to join Spartan Nation, where she will compete in both sports while pursuing her academic and career goals.

Maddie, an Anita, Iowa native, is well-known for her athletic accomplishments and academic dedication at CAM (Cumberland-Anita-Massena) High School. Throughout her high school career, she has earned eight varsity letters across volleyball, basketball, and soccer, establishing herself as a key player in each sport. In her senior season, she earned First Team All-Conference honors in volleyball for the Rolling Valley Conference, finishing second in digs and fifth in kills. In the spring, she also made her mark on the soccer field as a goalkeeper, where she led the Hawkeye 10 Conference in saves and earned Second Team All-Conference honors.

Beyond athletics, Maddie maintains a strong academic record with a 3.6 GPA and is actively involved in 4-H and FFA. Over the years, she has received numerous awards in categories like poultry, goats, beef, and photography, and has served her 4-H club as treasurer for four years and as club reporter for one.

Reflecting on her decision to attend SWCC, Maddie shared, "I chose SWCC because it's close to home and it's a small campus. I really like both coaches and their energy, and everyone there seems really nice—it has a family feel." Maddie's commitment to a family-like atmosphere at SWCC is further strengthened by her sister, Abby Richter, who is already part of the Spartan athletic family as a track athlete.

Maddie plans to pursue an Associate of Arts degree at SWCC before transferring to a four-year institution, where she aims to continue her studies in dietetics and strength and conditioning.
