Southwestern Volleyball Signs Gaby Cardenas to 2025 Recruiting Class

CRESTON, Iowa — Southwestern Community College (SWCC) volleyball is thrilled to announce the signing of Gaby Cardenas, a standout athlete from Denison High School in Denison, Iowa. Cardenas brings an impressive resume of athletic achievements, academic excellence, and a passion for the game that will be a valuable addition to the Spartans program.

During her senior season, Cardenas posted stellar stats, recording 228 kills, 182 digs, 10 solo blocks, and 47 aces. Her performance on the court earned her multiple accolades, including MVP, Offensive Threat, the Monarch Award, and 2nd Team All-Conference honors. She also received the Hawkeye Ten Academic Award, showcasing her commitment to success both on and off the court.

Cardenas credits the welcoming environment and passion of the Southwestern volleyball program for her decision to join the Spartans, stating, "I love how much energy and love coach has for this sport, and the whole team was very welcoming and supportive."

Cardenas honed her skills at both the high school and club levels, competing for NWI under Coach Anderson and Action Motion under Coach Mark Kirlin. Her experience and dedication to volleyball make her a strong addition to the Spartans roster.

Head Coach Brianna Maitlen shared her excitement about the signing, saying, "Gaby is a dynamic athlete with incredible work ethic and versatility on the court. We are excited to welcome her to the Spartan family and see the impact she'll have on our program."

Gaby is the daughter of Vicenta and Ismael Cardenas.
