Women Post Best National Finish Since 2012

The cross country season concluded for the Southwestern women this past Saturday at the NJCAA Division I Cross Country Championships hosted by Butler Community College in El Dorado, KS. Competing in a field of 37 teams, the Spartans posted a 34th place finish.

The team was led by freshman Kimberly Zepeda (Rockford, IL) with a 96th place finish in a 5,000m time of 20:18. Alyssa Proffitt (Afton) placed 198th in a time of 21:42. Odette Muziranenge (West Des Moines) placed 266th in a time of 23:32, Jenna Faust finished 272nd in 23:56, and Jasmine Forward concluded the scoring for the team with her 303rd place finish in 25:20.

"I am very proud of the race and the season these women had," remarked Head Coach Nick Ekel. "To finish their season at the national championship, and to post the best team finish since 2012, is a credit to their hard work and dedication to the sport, and to one another."
