A big weekend is coming for the Southwestern Community College (SWCC) athletic department! 

On Friday, Dec. 3, 2021, Former Head Men's Basketball Coach Bill Taylor and his 1998-99 Spartan men's basketball team will be inducted in the Southwestern Athletic Hall of Fame during halftime of the men's 7:30 p.m. basketball game. The evening will begin with the women’s game at 5:30 p.m. A reception will be held to honor Taylor and the team between the women’s and the men’s games. Taylor’s family will be in attendance.

Taylor’s team was the first Southwestern men's basketball team to qualify for the NJCAA DII National Tournament. The team ultimately placed seventh in the national tournament. This Hall of Fame ceremony was originally scheduled to take place on Friday, Nov. 22, 2019, but was postponed due to the sudden passing of Taylor on Nov. 7, 2019.

An endowment has been established in Taylor's name through the SWCC Education Foundation. Individuals interested in donating to the Bill Taylor Endowment may give online at swcciowa.edu/give. All gifts to the SWCC Education Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization, are tax-deductible to the extent provided by the law.

Following the Athletic Hall of Fame festivities, Southwestern is hosting its annual Athletics Fundraiser on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and buffet dinner will begin serving at 6:30 p.m., in the Student Center gymnasium. All Southwestern supporters are invited to attend.

The evening will feature a dinner, program, auction, raffle, games, and prizes. The Southwestern athletic department relies heavily on gifts received during this event to assist with student scholarships and athletic department improvements.

The SWCC Athletics Fundraiser has been held since November 1990 when the program featured Johnny Orr, former Iowa State University head men’s basketball coach.
