Spartans Earn Win #1 of the Year

In games three and four of the four-game series, the Spartans flashed their talent in beating a ranked opponent on the baseball field for the first time in the visible past. In game one on Monday, the Spartans grabbed their first victory. After the win, head coach Jordan Camp had this to say: "(It) feels good to get in the win column, and against a nationally-ranked, perennial power in Johnson County. Anthony Comfort gave us a really strong start, commanding the zone and keeping hitters off balance. And then we handed it off to Jake Ciafullo who gave us three scoreless innings to shut the door. Our defense played very clean and made some tough plays. That, along with some timely hitting and aggressive base running is ultimately what propelled us to this win."

On Monday, highlighted players are Anthony Comfort with 4 innings pitched, Jake Ciafullo with 3 innings pitched, and Andres Chirinos with 4 innings pitched. Offensively, the Spartans were led by Alex Fascia with 4 hits and Harrison Toone with 4 hits. After game two, coach Camp had this to say: " (We) got a really quality start from Andres Chirinos. Our bullpen for the most part came in and got us out of some jams but we couldn't come up with many timely hits. Our guys competed for all 9 innings and did a lot of things well. Seven games in and we're starting to click a little more as a team. There's still plenty to improve on and we look forward to getting after it next weekend at Fort Scott."
