Christopher Piperno was announced today as the next head coach for the Southwestern Community College baseball program.

Piperno will come to Creston from Delray Beach, Florida, where he has been an assistant baseball coach and recruiting coordinator for Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida, since 2015. In addition, he has been the head coach for the Boca Raton Blazers in the South Florida Collegiate League since 2017. The Blazers were the 2021 South Florida Collegiate League champions.

At Lynn University, Piperno has coached 10 all-conference, 11 all-region, three all-Americans, and three Sunshine State Conference Players of the Year. Eleven of his players have gone on to sign professional contracts, with four of them being drafted in the Major League Baseball draft.

Kim Bishop, Southwestern’s dean of student services and athletic director, said the college feels very fortunate to have found a coaching candidate of Piperno’s caliber for this position.

“I am thrilled to have Chris join our Spartan family as the new head baseball coach,” stated Bishop. “His playing and coaching experience at the NCAA Division II level, along with his passion for developing student athletes personally, academically, and athletically make him a tremendous fit for this position. I have no doubt that Chris will bring a high level of energy and positivity to the program while growing a competitive brand of SWCC baseball.”

Piperno said he is honored to step into the head coaching position at Southwestern.
“During the interview process I was able to see the passion that Kim [Bishop], Doug [North], and Tracey [Evans] had for SWCC and that played a huge factor in my decision,” said Piperno. “I’m looking forward to competing in one of the top junior college regions in the country. I hope that my knowledge in recruiting and player development can help bring in top notch student athletes to the Creston community. Time to get rolling Spartan Nation.”

Piperno earned a Master of Business Administration from Lynn University in May 2021 and a Bachelor of Arts in American studies with a minor in elementary education in May 2013. He is a graduate of General Douglas MacArthur High School in Levittown, New York.

He will begin his duties at Southwestern in late-June.
