Southwestern Spartans Baseball Team Opens Up On Home Diamond

The Southwestern Spartans baseball team went 1-3 during their home opening series against Dakota County Technical College over the weekend. Despite facing tough competition, the Spartans fought well at the plate, but gave up too many runs.

In the series opener on March 15th, the Spartans battled but ultimately fell short, with Dakota County Technical College securing a 9-5 victory. The game saw standout performances from Eli Eldred and Zade Stark, who contributed to the offensive effort with key hits.

Game two of the series witnessed a spirited effort from the Spartans, who battled back to take the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. In the solo win for the Spartans over the weekend, Chris Lugo, Brysen Vernon, and Drew Miller led the offensive charge, each delivering crucial hits to keep the Spartans in the game.

In game three of the four-game series, the Spartans took the lead into the sixth inning, but ultimately gave up 6 runs in the sixth and seventh innings to ultimately fall, 7-5.

In the final game of the series, the Spartans displayed resilience but ultimately fell short, with Dakota County Technical College securing a 9-6 win. Despite the loss, the Spartans' Barrett Lodge and Jake DeJoode led the pitching effort.

The Southwestern Spartans baseball team will look to bounce back as they prepare for upcoming matchups. The Spartans will travel to Iowa Central on Tuesday (originally scheduled for Wednesday) to kick off ICCAC play.
