Dazzlers at nationals

The Southwestern Spartan Dazzlers Dance Team made history this past weekend by attending its first ever national championship. The dazzlers competed at the Dance Team Union College Classic National Championship in Orlando, Florida, April 7-8. The Spartans competed in the open pom, jazz, and hip hop categories against community colleges and universities from across the United States.

Finishing the prelims performances, the Dazzlers were excited with their performances and took the corrections given by the judges prior to their final performances. At this particular national championship, the scores delete and every team performs again for its final performances with a fresh slate on scores.

The team increased its scores from the prelim performances to its final performances. The team is proud to represent Southwestern Community College day in and day out and enjoyed its time together in Florida. The team is bringing home a 4th place pom, 5th place jazz, and 5th place hip hop.

"This was not only a first for the program, but for me as a coach and the team members as well," said Paige Busch, head coach. "We were nervous, anxious, cried happy tears, laughed, and learned all so much during our time. The girls worked their tails off to compete at the national championship and I couldn't be prouder of them for how they performed, represented SWCC and presented themselves on the competition floor. We look forward to growing and attending the championship in upcoming years."

The Dazzlers are still actively recruiting for the 2023-24 season and look to build on their success from this year.
