Creston, IA—Bryce Newton of Corning has been named assistant dance coach at Southwestern Community College for the team’s 2023-24 season.

Newton is the Crown (competition program) director at the Spotlight School of Dance in Creston. In this position, he oversees the entire competitive roster and manages more than 40 students in the program. Newton’s team, CMU Envy, competed in the 2022 NDA National Competition, earning first overall in hip hop.

Newton, a 2021 SWCC graduate and former student-athlete on the Spartan dance team, will assist Head Dance Coach Paige Busch. Busch is anxious to have Newton onboard.

“Bryce is an outstanding dancer himself,” said Busch. “In addition, he has been on the other side as an instructor and choreographer for the last six years at an extremely active studio, making him an invaluable addition to our team. I can’t wait for him to get started!”

Newton is a May 2017 graduate of Southwest Valley High School in Corning. He earned his Associate of Arts degree from Southwestern in April 2021 and has completed additional college work in clinical psychology through Central Methodist University in Fayette, Missouri.
