Spartan Women Continue Season at Graceland Invitational

The Southwestern Spartan women's golf team competed in their second tournament of the fall season, the Graceland Invitational, at Graceland University in Lamoni on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017.

The Spartans didn't fare as well as expected. The team finished eighth in the eight-team competition. They were led by sophomore Courtney Clark.

Spartan Head Coach Doug North pointed out the Spartans were the only two-year school competing in the invitational.

"Every other team competing has their players for four years, so we need to keep in mind the level of our competition," commented Spartan Head Coach Doug North. "We didn't perform to our expectations, but it could have been worse. We played the last few holes great, so everybody left with smiles on their faces, and we're looking forward to next time."

The Spartan women were very consistent, with the top three scores only having seven strokes separating them.

"Courtney [Clark], Sydney [Goltl], and Hayley [Osmun] are all competing for that number one spot, and each has the ability to beat the other," said North. "They also all have a different style of play. It'll be fun to see how this fall shakes out, as we head into the off-season."
