Creston golfer Sophia Groumoutis has signed a National Letter of Intent to play golf for Head Coach Doug North and the Southwestern Community College Spartans for the 2018-19 season.

During high school, Groumoutis has received Iowa Girl's High School Athletic Union awards each year in golf and cross country. She received an All-Conference Athletic Award for golf in 2017-18. She earned varsity letters each year in golf and cross country. She also received a Golf Coaches Association award.

North is excited to gain another student-athlete from Southwestern's region.

"Sophia is another huge addition to our team from right in our own backyard," North explained. "She had the 10th best scoring average in Class 4A and eighth best in the Hawkeye X as a junior. She is going to be a hardworking addition to an already talented squad."

Groumoutis' accomplishments during high school have North looking forward to her future at Southwestern.

"A four-year letter winner in golf and cross country shows her athleticism," commented North. "I'm excited about the opportunities ahead for Sophia and the Southwestern Spartan women's golf team!"

Groumoutis, who will graduate in May from Creston High School, is the daughter of Mae Greene and Dino Groumoutis of Creston.
