Bianca Findlay, freshman of Hopper Crossing, Australia, finished in sixth place at the Region XI Championships held over two weekends, April 20-21 and April 27-28, at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny, qualifying her for the NJCAA Women’s Golf Championship in Mesa, AZ, in May.

According to Spartan Head Coach Doug North, Findlay’s first two days competing put her in contention, but it was truly days three and four that solidified her as one of the elite players in the ICCAC.

“Bianca’s 88 on the third day doesn’t look extremely impressive on paper, but it was her most solid performance,” explained North.

North said Findlay was playing well in extremely windy conditions to have a few unlucky bounces on holes 17 and 18 and finish with an 88. Day four, however, is when the hard work paid off. Findlay had pars all day. She was only one-over par through 10 holes after a key 20-foot birdie on hole 10. She held it together down the stretch and had a good finish.

“To post your personal-best on day four of a championship is something special," beamed North. "That ceiling has been broken and there is nothing holding her back now. She is capable of competing with the nation’s best down in the desert, and I am excited to see what she can do.”

Findlay will be competing with 14 other ICCAC women golfers in Mesa, AZ, from May 14-17, at the NJCAA Women’s Golf Championship.
