Spartans Win Two at Central (NE) Classic

The Southwestern men's basketball team picked up two wins over the weekend at the Pinnacle Bank Classic hosted by Central (NE) Community College.  On Friday night, the Spartans defeated Southeast (NE) Community College 92-87 and then defeated the host Central (NE) 83-67 on Saturday afternoon.

"I was disappointed in our defensive effort Friday.  Saturday we were much better on the end of the court which allowed us to get some easy baskets in transition," said Spartan Head Coach Todd Lorensen.  "Saturday was the first time we saw zone defense and I was happy with how we responded to that."

On Friday, Calvin Chambers led the way with 18 points on only eight shot attempts and on Saturday, Brodric Thomas led the way with 19 points on 11 shot attempts.

"In six games we have had four different players lead us in scoring.  Our depth and balance is a huge asset," added Lorensen. "Each game our leading scorer has been very efficient too. On nights guys aren't scoring they are finding other ways to impact winning."

Southwestern who is ranked #11 in NJCAA DII is now 6-0 on the season and is back in action this weekend at the Rock Valley College Classic.  They play NJCAA DII Macomb College on Friday who is ranked #19 in the nation and on Saturday play NJCAA DI Kankakee Community College.
