Spartans 3-0 on Road

Southwestern men's basketball, ranked #4 in NJCAA DII, had three road games this past week and picked up three victories to move to 13-0 on the season.  They defeated NJCAA DI Marshalltown 94-80 on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016, then defeated NJCAA DII Little Priest Tribal College (LPTC) 99-74 on Friday, and finished the weekend with a 107-69 win on Saturday again over LPTC.

"Marshalltown had the feel of a big conference road game," said Spartan Head Coach Todd Lorensen.  "Our guys made runs, withstood runs, and made huge plays on both ends of the floor down the stretch."

KeShawn Wilson led the five Spartans who finished in double figures with 17 points on 5-7 shooting from the arc.  Lavon Hightower had 14 points and was perfect from the field while Calvin Chambers tallied 15 points with 9-12 in free throw shooting.  Jordan Johnson and Jamil Maddred had 12 points each.  Johnson led the team with eight assists to only one turnover and Chambers had four steals.

"Our balance and depth came up huge again," said Lorensen. "Both Lavon and Jamil did a great job in the second half rebounding against bigger opponents."

Over the weekend, Wilson again led the charge on Friday with 22 points on 6-8 three point shooting.  On Saturday, Hightower was the headliner with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

The Spartans have a short break over finals week and return to action on Friday, Dec. 16, against Olive-Harvey at Malcolm X Community College.  They finish the fall semester on Dec. 17 at Wilbur Wright College.
