Spartans Win 2 in Chicago

Bollingbrook, Il, native Brodric Thomas made the most of Southwestern's road trip through Chicago this weekend by leading the team with 34 points in a 90-77 win over Wilbur Wright College.  He followed the Wilbur Wright game by contributing 11 points in a 79-66 victory over Olive-Harvey College.  The two road wins moved the NJCAA DII #2-ranked Spartans record to 15-0 and finished a 12-game road stretch.

"Our schedule was intended to have the team battle and road tested," said Spartan Coach Todd Lorensen. "It has been good for our team but it will be great to be back home in January."

Friday's victory was highlighted with five players in double figures, led by Jordan Johnson with 13, Jamil Maddred with 12, and Malachi Canada and Thomas with 11.  KeShawn Wilson was the final Spartan in double figures with 10.

Thomas stole the show on Saturday.  His 34 points were a season-best for a Spartan and he did it while shooting 9-13 from the field, 3-6 from the arc, and 13-14 from the charity stripe.  He added four rebounds, two blocks, one assist, and one steal to his stat line.

"We had a feeling he was going to have a big game soon.  A big key was keeping him out of foul trouble and then his teammates did a great job of looking for him," said Lorensen.

Southwestern will be back in action after the new year hosting perennial NJCAA D1 power Indian Hills.  The game is January 7, with a 7 p.m. tip-off.
