Spartans Win Two in Nebraska

Southwestern men's basketball pushed its overall record to 11-2 on the season with a pair of victories in the Northeast (NE) Holiday Classic.  On Friday, Dec. 9, the Spartans defeated Briar Cliff JV, 105-102, and on Saturday they defeated NJCAA D1 Lake Region State, 84-63.  Southwestern will wait until Feb. 6 to face Northeast CC on their home court.

According to Southwestern Head Coach Todd Lorensen, Terence Shelby had a monster weekend scoring 31 points on Friday and 19 points on Saturday, leading the team in scoring both nights. Chad Moran notched double figures both nights with 24 on Friday and 10 on Saturday. Khallid Edwards just missed a double-double on Saturday scoring 10 points and handing out nine assists. He added five rebounds.

"Khallid does so much for us that doesn't show up in the stats as well," said Lorensen. "He's a tremendous on-ball defender and his energy is a huge catalyst for our team on a daily basis. Any time he scores that's just an added bonus."

The Spartans are ranked #4 in the nation and have two games remaining before the holiday break. On Thursday, Dec. 14, they host NJCAA DI Kankakee CC at 7 p.m. and on Friday, Dec. 15, they host Southeast CC (NE) at 5:30 p.m. in a rematch from Nov. 18, where Southwestern won 87-76.
