Spartans Dominate NIACC in finale 91-42

North Iowa Area Community College scored the first five points of the Saturday, March 3, contest featuring the Southwestern Spartans vs the NIACC Trojans in Mason City.  After that, the remaining 39 minutes were dominated by Southwestern.

The Spartans answered the start with a 26-0 run of their own to lead 26-5 with 11 minutes remaining in the first half.  Southwestern took a 47-22 lead into the half fueled by 10 makes from downtown.

"We shared the ball well against their zone and then used our press to get the pace in our favor," said Spartan Head Coach Todd Lorensen.

The second half started with a monster dunk by Chad Moran off a lob from Khallid Edwards and then the ensuing possession was a three by Terence Shelby to push the lead to 52-22.  The remainder of the game had little intrigue as Southwestern cruised to a 91-42 victory.

"It was good to see our guys off the bench get extended minutes and be productive," commented Lorensen. "We hope to play three games this week, so resting our starters was beneficial too."

The win pushed the Spartans record to 23-7 overall and 8-4 in ICCAC play which earned Southwestern the three-seed in regional play.

Southwestern hosts #6-seed Des Moines Area Community College (17-12, 3-9) on Tuesday, March 6, at 7 p.m. in Creston.
