With Weather Cancellations, Spartans Gain Valuable Experience

With the Reiver Classic being called off in the middle of the race due to stormy conditions, there are no team scores, but the Spartans still competed at a high level.

On the trip back to Creston, Director of Track and Field and Cross Country, Scott Vicker, had this to say on the evening: "We can throw times out the window tonight. But the effort and the competitive fire I saw from the guys tonight was great to see. Even though it was a disappointing result to have the race called off, it was a good experience for our guys to get out and see some of the competition they'll be up against at regionals and nationals."

The Spartans were highlighted by Sophomore, Josh Baudler. The Sophomore took 8th place in a loaded field. Following right behind were York Miles and Jon McCall finishing 12th and 13th respectively. Vicker had this to say, "York and Jon did a great job of working together throughout the race. That was exactly what I wanted to see out of them. I loved the effort I saw from them tonight, as they also moved up in the second half of the race."

On Baudler's performance, "Josh ran a great race. He stayed under control early and moved up in the second half of the race. Times were slow across the board because of the heat and hills/footing."

The Spartans compete next in the Bill Buxton Invitational hosted by Simpson College on September 3.
