The Southwestern softball team again took their skills on the road, but ran into a very tough Blue Devil team.
In game one, the Spartans battled in a tightly-contested game that finished 6-4 in favor of the Kansas City Kansas Blue Devils. Southwestern has been hot on offense to start the year, but ran into a cold spell, going just five of twenty-three at the plate. Head coach, Nick Weinmeister, had this to say about the contest: "We came out ready to go and knew KCKCC would be a tough team both offensively and from a pitching standpoint. We had our chances throughout the game and Thayda (Houser) did a good job in the circle giving us a chance to win. Unfortunately, they came up with the big hit when they needed it which is how the game goes."
In game two, much of the same for the Spartans earning just one run on three hits. Coach Weinmeister and the Spartans look forward to defending their home turf coming up on Monday: "We faced the best pitcher we've seen so far this season and she did a good job keeping our bats at bay throughout the entire game. Jenna Parfeniuk threw well for us and her outing was not indicative of the score since we made a couple defensive mistakes behind her. Coming away 0-2 on the day was not what we set out to do but we will learn from today and be ready to face Central at home on Monday."
