The Southwestern softball program signed East Union catcher Kaitlyn Mitchell, who becomes the Spartans' first signee for their 2022 class.

Mitchell, who will graduate high school in May 2022, was named honorable mention all-conference in softball for the 2021 season and second team all-conference for the 2020 season.

Southwestern Head Coach Danny Jensen said he is confident she will contribute to his team's success, both offensively and defensively, next year.

"Kaitlyn is a very talented catcher and an outstanding contact hitter," Jensen said. "She has been the varsity catcher for the last three seasons and has delivered many quality hits for East Union."

In addition, Mitchell was a 2021 state track qualifier in the 4x100.

"We're fortunate because Kaitlyn's running experience will assist her on the softball field," explained Jensen. "She is a very good base runner with speed."

Academically, Mitchell is a member of the National Honor Society and has received an academic letter.

She is the daughter of Scott and Melanie Mitchell of Afton.
