The Southwestern Spartan sports shooting team traveled to the Stockdale Gun Club in Ackley on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, to participate in the Ellsworth Invitational. 

According to Marc Roberg, Spartan sports shooting coach, it was a very cold and windy day. Southwestern's sports shooters ended up with a third place finish. 

At the end of competition, the top five Spartans were:

• Kessler Tomas, freshman, Creston – 93
• Hunter Albers, sophomore, Indianola – 92
• Tom Steinbach, freshman, Creston – 89
• Blake Binns, freshman, Winterset – 87
• Cole Harder, sophomore, Hancock – 87

For high individual men, the top Spartan finishers were:

• Kessler Tomas – 9th
• Hunter Albers – 10th
• Tom Steinbach – 18th
• Blake Binns and Cole Harder - Tie for 25th

For high individual women, Southwestern's top finishers were:

• Jessica Aupperle, sophomore, Wiota – 12th
• Mallory Bell, freshman, Colfax – 18th
• Sydney McElfish, sophomore, Greenfield, and Makayla Flora, freshman, Adel – Tie for 21st

The Spartans will be traveling to Grand Island, NE, for the ACUI Upper Midwest Championships on November 4-5.
