Spartan Sports Shooting Team Competes in Nebraska

The Southwestern Community College sports shooters traveled to Grand Island, NE, on November 4 and 5 for the ACUI Upper Midwest Championships.  There were more approximately 20 colleges represented and more than 260 shooters who competed.

High points for the Spartan team included:

  • Hunter Albers, sophomore, Indianola – Tied for third in skeet with a 97
    • Shot a 91 in trap for 55th
    • Placed 25th in combined trap + skeet overall standings
    • Placed 52nd in high overall (trap + skeet + sporting clays)
  • Cole Harder, sophomore, Hancock – Finished 48th in skeet with a 91Placed 36th in super sporting clays with a 42/50
    • Placed 52nd in combined trap + skeet overall standings
    • Placed 85th in high overall standings (trap + skeet + sporting clays)
  • Kessler Tomas, freshman, Creston – Finished 68th in super sporting clays with a 40/50

Marc Roberg, Southwestern's head sports shooting coach, said the Spartans as a team did not perform as well as he had hoped, but pointed out the weather was very cold and windy, especially when they shot trap.

Roberg did point out one of his shooters, Mallory Bell, freshman of Colfax, had an amazing run in Grand Island. Bell shot her best-ever score of 77 in trap.

"This may not seem like much to some," Roberg smiled, "but this is the first year she has done ANY shotgun shooting."

The Spartans travel to Indianola next, on Nov. 18, for the Grand View Invitational.  This will be the final shoot of their fall season.
