Spartan Student-Athlete Qualifies for Olympics

Sisilia Seavula, Southwestern Community College sophomore student-athlete, has qualified for the 2016 Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro this August. 

Seavula, who competes on the Spartan track and field team, will run for her home country of Fiji.  She will be competing in the women's 100m dash on Fri., August 12, at 8:40 p.m. central time. 

Related to her upcoming Olympic experience, Seavula said, "It's a privilege and honor ... I feel blessed and very humbled to be given this opportunity to represent my country in Rio."

Seavula is the second runner with Southwestern ties to qualify for the 2016 Olympic games.  Theo Piniau, a May 2015 Southwestern graduate, qualified for the Papua New Guinea team and will compete in the men's 200m dash.
