Spartans Compete at 2017 Dordt Outdoor Invitational

On Saturday, April 8, the Southwestern Spartans traveled to the 2017 Dordt Outdoor Invitational hosted by Dordt College in Sioux Center. While previously scheduled to attend the L.D. Weldon Classic, hosted by Graceland University, the Spartans made the decision to instead travel north, in order to find tougher competition.

It was another great day for track and field as the weather was cloudy and 70 degrees with a bit of aiding wind, which showed results in the sprint events. The Spartans had numerous personal and season bests in the sprint events, including sophomore Sisilia Seavula, who finished third in the 100m dash, with a season best time of 12.31, and finished second in the 200m dash, with a season best time of 25.46.

Top finishers on the men's side came from Ronald Henderson, placing second in the high jump with his best jump of the outdoor season, at 6 feet and 7 inches; Tony Klocke earned a fifth place finish in the 110-meter hurdles, with a time of 15.97; and the 4x100 meter relay team, consisting of Jeremy Newton, Dylan Lucas, Malik McClellon, and Andrew Conover, finished fourth in the competition. Lucas then went on to place sixth in the 400-meter hurdles, with a season's best time of 59.11.

This meet was not scored. Next week, on Saturday, April 15, the Spartans will travel south to Liberty, MO, to compete at the Darrell Gourley Open at William Jewell College.
