Southwestern Community College track and field student-athlete Ronald Marquette Henderson, Jr. has qualified for the high jump at this week's NJCAA indoor track and field national championships, to be held on March 2 and 3 at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX.

Currently ranked fourth in the nation for high jump, Henderson, a sophomore from Akron, OH, is a three-time national track and field qualifier (two-time indoor qualifier and one-time outdoor qualifier). He is a three-time regional champion in high jump and his personal best is 2.10 meters.

Southwestern Head Track and Field Coach Jordan Strofaci is impressed with all Henderson has accomplished on and off the track.

"I am incredibly proud of Ronald, not only because of his athletic performances and accomplishments, but because of how he has matured and grown as a student-athlete, and as a person," explained Strofaci. "I believe a person's value is not measured by their accomplishments, but by their character, work ethic, attitude, and passion. By these terms, Ronald is a very valuable individual."

Strofaci feels Henderson has a strong mind when dealing with an event that can be challenging mentally.

"The high jump is a difficult event because you always end with a failed attempt," stated Strofaci. "Ronald has learned how to deal with the setbacks and the failures and turn them into strengths."

Henderson was honored between the women's and men's home basketball games at Southwestern on Saturday, Feb 24, for his accomplishments.
