Spartan Defense Helps Build First Half Lead

SWCC WBB vs Little Priest Tribal

The Spartan women's basketball team moved to 2-0 on the season following a 71-41 home victory over Little Priest Tribal College on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 4, 2017, with a 1 p.m. tip-off.

For the two consecutive games, the Spartans have had four players reach double-digit scoring:

  • Fallyn Beemer, sophomore, Bedford - 13 pts
  • T'Keyah Stapleton, sophomore, Omaha, NE - 11 pts
  • Keaundra Washington, sophomore, Omaha, NE - 13 pts
  • Tina Lair-VanMeter, freshman, Coon Rapids - 11 pts

Southwestern Head Coach Addae Houston is happy with his team's performance at this point in the season.

"Although it's early, it's really exciting to see the team getting off to a good start and playing with such passion and effort on both sides of the ball," Houston explained.

Defensively the Spartans held the Warriors to only 16 first-half points. Houston said in back-to-back games his Spartans have held their opponents to under 50 total points scored.

Next up, the Southwestern Spartans will face Marshalltown at home on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 5:30 p.m. The Spartans defeated Marshalltown 74-55 last season in their only head-to-head match-up.
