Spartans Come Up Short vs Marshalltown

SWCC WBB vs Marshalltown

The Spartan women's basketball team hosted the Marshalltown Tigers on Tuesday, Nov. 7, with a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.

The night seemed to start well for the Spartans after connecting on their first three 3-pointers of the game, but that quickly faded into a poor shooting performance that left a deficit they ultimately could not overcome.

Marshalltown defeated Southwestern 57-43, picking up their first win of the season. The Spartans now stand at 2-1.

Spartan Head Coach Addae Houston was not happy with the team's performance and hopes they can learn and grow from here.

"It was one of those games where you would like to have redo because of how poorly we shot the ball," Houston explained, "but unfortunately that's not how it works. We have to grow from here as a team, understanding our defense can carry us when we shoot so poorly in a game."

T'Keyah Stapleton was the lone Spartan to reach double digits in scoring. Stapleton finished with 16 points on five of 12 shooting. She had five rebounds, two assists, and one steal on the night.

Next up for the Spartans will be two consecutive home games:

  • William Penn JV on Tuesday, Nov. 14. Tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
  • Grandview JV on Thursday, Nov. 16. Tip-off at 6 p.m.
