Spartan Women Pick Up Road Win

The Southwestern women's basketball team traveled to Malta, IL, on Friday, Jan. 5, to take on Kishwaukee College in a 5:30 p.m. match-up. The Spartans walked away with a 52-24 victory.

Spartan Head Coach Addae Houston said defense was key in the win, as his team held Kishwaukee to 24 total points. In addition, the Spartans forced 38 turnovers.

"During the first half of the season we had a tendency to let our offense dictate our effort on defense," said Houston after the game. "That was not the case this time, because we shot the ball poorly but continued to stay aggressive on defense throughout the entire game."

Southwestern's Fallyn Beemer led all scorers with 14 points. Jasmine Aviles was second-leading scorer with 12 points.

The Spartans move to 6-6 on the season. Up next is Iowa Western Community College on Tuesday, Jan. 9, at Council Bluffs with a 6 p.m. start.
