Spartans Fall to Iowa Central Tritons

The Spartans traveled to Fort Dodge on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, looking to pick up their first conference win of the season as they faced the Iowa Central Tritons.

The Spartans trailed closely the entire game, except for an early lead in the first quarter. They were down seven points at the half. The closest the Spartans got during the second half was trailing six points. The final score didn't indicate what a competitive game it was throughout, as the Spartans lost by 13 points and a score of 64-51.

T'Keyah Stapleton was leading scorer for the Spartans with 13 points. She was the only player to reach double digits. Jasmine Aviles, Keaundra Washington, and Tina Lair Van-Meter each finished with nine points.

"In each of our games since the start of the second half of the season, we have struggled to shoot the ball well," stated Spartan Head Coach Addae Houston. "It's unfortunate, but we have to find other ways to score, like attacking the basket or getting to the foul line rather than relying on outside shots.

The Spartans move to a 6-9 overall record and are 0-2 in the ICCAC.

Up next, the Southwestern women are on the road again to Iowa Falls to compete against Ellsworth Community College on Saturday, Jan 20, at 1 p.m.
