DMACC Outlasts Spartans in Conference Match-Up

The Spartans hosted the DMACC Bears on Wednesday night, Jan. 24, 2018, still looking to pick up their first conference win.

Spartan Head Coach Addae Houston was excited to see his players get off to a hot start connecting on four three-point field goals during the first quarter.

"It was really great to see our team execute such a great start and shoot the ball with confidence," Houston beamed.

Unfortunately, some offensive struggles began in the second quarter for the Spartans. Despite the lack of offense, however, the Spartans were down just 27-34 at the half.

Houston summed the way his team battled by saying, "With only seven active players and some foul trouble, it was difficult for us to continue to play at such a high level, but we competed for 40 minutes and I am proud of our efforts."

Four Spartans reached double-digits in scoring: T'Keyah Stapleton led scoring with 15 points, Jasmine Aviles added 12 points, and Keaundra Washington and Vanessa Romo each had 11 points.

Next up, the Spartans will face the Kirkwood Eagles on Saturday, Jan. 27, against Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids at 1 p.m.
