Strong Eagle Defense and Spartan Scoring Drought Lead to Loss

The Spartans hit the road to Cedar Rapids on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, to play Kirkwood Community College.

Southwestern started the game with a 6-0 run, but then the Eagles came to life and countered with a 17-2 run to end the first quarter. At the half, the Eagles held the lead 44-16.

Spartan Head Coach Addae Houston said at the start, his team was poised and had good execution; however, after the first five minutes of the game, the Eagles' defense stepped it up a notch and the Spartans went on a scoring drought from which they could never recover.

Keaundra Washington led the Spartans with 17 points, shooting five of 10 from the three-point line.

Up next, on Wednesday, Jan 31, the Spartans will face Southeastern Community College at home.
