Iowa Lakes Outlasts Spartans at Estherville

The Southwestern women's basketball team traveled to Estherville on Saturday, Feb 10, 2018, for a re-match with Iowa Lakes. The Spartans went into the game eager for redemption from their 65-74 January loss in Creston to the Lakers.

"We played a tough game at our place, so I was very confident going into this game," said Spartan Head Coach Addae Houston. "A few mistakes down the stretch cost us in the end, but it's always tougher playing on the road."

The Spartans came out strong and played competitively the first two quarters. They trailed 32-33 at the end of the first half.

Houston summarized the Spartans' efforts stating, "I felt really good about our chances after the first half ended being down by one, but the second half was a letdown on both ends of the court."

The Spartans were held to just 15 points total in the second half. The game ended with a final score of 47-75.

Sophomore guard T'Keyah Stapleton led all Spartans with 15 points and was the only player to reach double digits in scoring. Overall the Spartans fall to 7-15 on the season.

Up next for Southwestern is their Pink Out game vs Iowa Central on Feb. 14, with a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
