Despite strong second half Spartans fall to Ellsworth

The Southwestern Spartan women's basketball team hosted Ellsworth Community College on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018. The Spartans came away from the game with a 45-57 loss.

According to Head Coach Addae Houston, the Spartans lack of offense in the second quarter was detrimental to the final score.

"We have to do a better job of creating offense by attacking the basket and getting to the free-throw line more in games to generate offense when we struggle to connect on our outside shots," stated Houston.

At the end of the first half, the Spartans were down 23-13.

"We had a strong second half outscoring Ellsworth 35-34, but could never overcome the deficit from the second quarter," commented Houston.

Jasmine Aviles led the Spartans in scoring with 16 points and recorded her first career double-double with 10 rebounds. Keaundra Washington added 11 points, six rebounds, and two blocks.

Next up, the Spartans travel to Boone on Wed, Feb. 21, to face DMACC with a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
