Women's basketball hosting youth camps

Southwestern Head Women's Basketball Coach Darien Wingate will be hosting a pair of youth camps.

Wingate, along with his women's basketball players, will hold an elementary camp from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20 (Presidents Day) in the SWCC Student Center gymnasium. This camp is open to boys and girls in grades 1-5, and is designed to develop and improve fundamental skills of all players. Specialized camp instruction will include station work, position work, and competitive contests. The camp will be divided by both age and ability groups, complemented by matching instruction and competition. Teamwork and communication skills will be built into stations work and competitions. The cost for this camp is $55 per camper.

The middle school camp, for girls in grades 5-8, will be held 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 1. Specialized camp instruction will include station work, tips on being an effective ball handler, shooting drills, importance of finishing at the basket, and competitive contests. Cost of this camp is $45 per camper.

Camp instruction will be provided by the Southwestern women's basketball coaches and players. Various competitions such as 1-on-1, 2-on-2, and 3-on-3 will be implemented throughout camps. An emphasis will be placed on teaching teh game through positive instruction from coaches and positive interaction with other campers.
