Creston, IA—Takisha Basham of Roanoke, Virginia, has been announced as assistant women’s basketball coach for Southwestern Community College. Basham will assist second-year head coach Darien Wingate with the women’s basketball program.

Basham comes to Southwestern from Roanoke Catholic School where she has been a basketball coach and a track and field throwing coach for boys junior varsity, as well as boys and girls middle school programs since 2018. In addition, she has worked as an instructional assistant and paraprofessional for Roanoke City Public Schools. Since 2014, Basham has been a basketball specialist at Camp Seneca Lake in Honesdale, Pennsylvania, during the summer months.

Wingate is looking forward to having Basham on campus.

“Takisha has a variety of coaching experience at various age levels,” Wingate explained. “She clearly has proven she has the capabilities to teach and train student-athletes to help them perform to their maximum abilities. I’m excited to have her on campus working with our players.”

Basham earned a Bachelor of Science degree from West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia, in December 2007.

She arrived on campus late last week and will begin her duties immediately.
