The Southwestern Spartan women opened their fall golf season competing on their home course.

The Spartans were led by returning second-team all-conference and national championship qualifier Bianca Findlay. Findlay, sophomore from Australia, is not shy of medals and trophies. Findlay led the Spartans and took home the individual win, shooting a 6-over par 78 to win by three.

"One of Bianca's goals is to finish in the top-10 every time we compete," explained Doug North, Spartan head coach. "I love that goal. She has that talent and she is excited for this season."

In the 37-player field featuring both two-year and four-year schools, Sarah Rauschenberg, freshman from Dallas Center, fared well in her first-ever college event. Rauschenberg shot a 97 and finished tied for 25th. Rounding out the Spartans scoring was freshman Katelyn Belding, of Lenox, firing a 111. Sophomore Megan Fairchild, of Stuart, finished with a 115.

The Spartans were missing former Creston Panther standout Ashton Carter, due to family obligations.

"Ashton wasn't able to be here, but we knew she would have some family obligations this fall," said North. "She was disappointed not to compete in front of a home crowd, but she will be ready to go and jump-start her college career in Mason City."
