Sauvakacolo breaks triple jump record again

Waldorf Warrick Invite

Southwestern Community College sophomore Fane Sauvakacolo continued her strong start to the 2021 indoor track and field season with two more PRs at Saturday's Waldorf Warrick Invite.

Sauvakacolo started her day with a new school record in the triple jump. She posted a mark of 10.92 meters on her final attempt at Iowa Central's Rec Center to break her previous school record of 10.74 meters. Her mark of 10.92 meters placed second in the competition.

"Fane keeps inching her way closer to that automatic qualifying mark of 11.03 meters," said Scott Vicker, director of cross country/track and field at Southwestern. "That will be our main goal for her at regionals in a couple of weeks."

As running events got underway on the track at the Humboldt Recreation Center, Sauvakacolo posted a PR time of 8.03 in the 60 meter dash prelims. She would go on to finish fourth in finals with her time of 8.13. Sauvakacolo also finished second in the 200 meter dash with her time of 27.46.

The previous week, Sauvakacolo posted the top pentathlon score in the NJCAA so far this year, scoring 2,150 points at the Washburn Open in Topeka, Kansas.

"Fane has a chance to do something very special at nationals this year," Vicker said. "She continues to impress each meet, and her confidence continues to grow."
