Spartan Baseball Splits with Ellsworth

This past weekend was the tale of two baseball teams at Southwestern Community College. Saturday saw the Spartans lose two games to Ellsworth Community College (15-6, 11-1). On Sunday, a spark lit and the Spartans had bats on fire, winning both games (18-7, 23-14).

Ernies Lozada was Mr. Consistent over the weekend according to Coach Jordan Camp, "Ernies brings it every day, we know what we will get out of him day-in and day-out." Lozada had 10 hits over the weekend which allowed seven Spartans to score. Lozada is batting .469 through fourteen games this season, which has him leading the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference and in the top-30 in the country on offense.

On Sunday, Carlos Muniz led the way offensively for the Spartans. Muniz had eight hits, including four home runs, putting fourteen Spartans across home plate over the weekend. Muniz is batting .405 with 23 RBI's on the season. Muniz leads the conference in runs batted in, leads the conference in home runs, and is fifth in the conference in batting average. 

Southwestern is off to a great start against elite competition in the young season. At this point, the Spartans are leading the conference in home runs (18) and second in batting average with a .308.
